On the water
You can have a wonderful time on Koh Tao without ever leaving the sand, but the island really opens up from the water. The classic first day is the full-island snorkel loop: five bays, the sandbar at Koh Nang Yuan and turtles at Shark Bay, with lunch on board. After that it's sunset cruises, private longtails to hidden coves, and, of course, the diving.
If you want to go under, this is the easiest place on Earth to start. Try a first dive or log a couple of fun dives with schools like Master Divers, or trade the tank for a single breath with Apnea Total, the freediving school off Sairee.
