Freediver in the blue off Koh Tao

Things to do

Never a boring day.

Above and below the waterline: from muay thai mornings to one-breath dives and sunset hikes.

Above and below the water

There's more to Koh Tao than diving.

Twenty-one square kilometres doesn't sound like much, but Koh Tao packs a full week of days into it. Mornings are for the water: snorkel loops around Koh Nang Yuan, a first scuba dive with schools like Master Divers in Mae Haad, or a single-breath descent into the blue with Apnea Total, the freediving school right off Sairee.

Koh Nang Yuan and the viewpoint, Koh Tao

On land, the island climbs. Five viewpoints reward a sweaty scramble with the postcard shot, John-Suwan the most famous of them; granite boulders give climbers sea views; and muay thai gyms, yoga shalas and massage salas fill the slower hours.

When the sun drops, the island resets. Sunset drinks at a beach club like Ibiza Beach Club on Sairee, a fire show on the sand, or the famous pub crawl doing its rounds on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Here's how to fill your days.
